The Rave

I here by dub this page, 'The Rave Page'. It is dedicated to raving... and stuff of that nature. A new rave each week, yadda, yadda, yadda..... Email me if you have any suggestions for what you deem worthy (ha) to be on The Rave.

This Week's Rave
Moulin Rouge! OK, OK, maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am a French student...and maybe it has something to do with the fact that it's a musical, and I love musicals...and it was nice having a handsome male lead....BUT it was a great movie! All I'm saying is, though I may be a bit biased, I believe that the movie would be enjoyable for most people. Some guys might get bored and even dare to drop the title 'chic flick'. However, guys with a bit more intelligence and maturity on their bones might feel otherwise. It is a classy film...what I deem a classy film. It broke boundaries. This movie is right up there with Memento in terms of filmwriting on my list. It dared to chance the film/musical catagory and succeeded.
The story of Moulin Rouge centers around Christian (Ewan McGregor), a 'penniless' poet. He, through bizzare circumstances, becomes invovled with the Moulin Rouge. Here he manages to fall for the dazzling Satine (Nicole Kidman), the star of the show. The best part of this movie, however, has to be the moments where the characters burst into song. I know if you aren't a big musical fan, you probably hate these moments. But trust me, with Moulin Rouge, it's different. Christian isn't exactly singing about washing the dishes or walking the dog, as some musicals will tend to fall in that direction. Most of the songs you will even recognize. For instance, you have to have heard Roxanne, Like a Virgin, and Your Song before. And what about this line "some people want to fill the world with silly love songs..." Now there's a ditty I've heard one too many times at Jewel (yes, they play it in there ALL the time). These renditions of popular songs are absolutly wonderful. Ewan McGregor has the voice of an angel. It is truly beautiful. The same goes for Nicole Kidman. I must admit, I was surprised and impresssed. The chemistry between them made the film worth watching (something I can't say about a certain other Ewan McGregor film *coughStarWarscough*, but we'll get into the Hayden Christensen trashing later). Bottom line: This film is one you'll want to watch again and again!!!

Last Week's Rave

I decided to start out with one of my favorite comedians: Jimmy Fallon! Those of you who don't know how much I love Jimmy Fallon either 1) don't know me or 2) choose to ignore my ramblings about "last night's 'Saturday Night Live'". Either way, the cat is out of the bag now. Jimmy Fallon is the Rave!

For those of you who don't know who the heck Jimmy Fallon is, I'll tell you a little bit about him. Jimmy was born on September 19th, 1974 to parents Jim and Gloria Fallon. Yes, he's 27 ladies, sorry. He has one sister, Gloria (his parents were sure creative, huh?). Jimmy is most famous for his impressions and wonderful singing on "SNL".

Where would you have seen Mr. Fallon? or more important, Where can you see him? Well, you may have seen Jimmy hosting the 2001 MTV Movie Awards with Kirsten Dunst. (If you didn't see it you can download clips on KaZaA or another system.) He also had a small(er) part in the movie "Almost Famous" and the TV series "Band of Brothers". You can catch him every Saturday night on the show that makes you laugh til you cry, "Saturday Night Live". If you can't get enough, check Comedy Central for "SNL" reruns. You may even get to see Nick Burns, my personal favorite sketch. Currently, Jimmy Fallon is the host of Weekend Update on "SNL" with co-host Tina Fey. Lots of laughs...
